Atletico may always be in the shadow of Barcelona and Real Madrid in Spain, but at the World Cup, they’re the ones calling the shots. The “Roji-Blancos” are the team with the most players in the World Cup final, and this is actually the third consecutive tournament in which this has been the case.
Marc Jorente, Alex Baena, Marc Pumbil, Alejandro Grimaldo (signed from Bayer Leverkusen), Juan Musso, Nahuel Molina, Julián Álvarez, Giuliano Simeone, Thiago Almada, and Nico González (who spent the entire 2025–26 season on loan from Juventus), will represent the club in Sunday’s match between Spain and Argentina.
At the same time, Atlético also becomes the club with the most players represented in a World Cup final since Italy in 1934. It is also the Spanish club with the most players in a World Cup final in history.
Four Atlético players participated in each of the previous two World Cup finals. In Russia in 2018, Antoine Griezmann, Lucas Hernández, Thomas Lemar, and Sime Vrsaljko represented France and Croatia in the final. Griezmann returned for Qatar 2022, along with Ángel Correa, Nahuel Molina, and Rodrigo De Paul, who went on to lift the trophy with Argentina.
