One team still in contention and one eliminated—that was the outcome for the Cypriot handball teams at the start of the first round of the EHF European Cup, with Omonia 29M securing a resounding victory in its European debut and Parnassos bringing its European campaign to a close.
The “Greens,” who are among the teams making their debut in a European competition, defeated Granitas-Karys 25–21 in the match held at the “Kyriakos Pissis” Stadium in Strovolos, defeated Granitas-Karys 25–21. As a result, they head into the rematch with a strong lead.
The Nicosia team secured a significant four-goal lead and now travels to Lithuania for the second leg, aiming to defend their lead and secure a spot in the next round.
The second leg of the series will take place on Sunday (September 20, 5:00 p.m.), with Omonia 29M looking to capitalize on the advantage it gained from the first game and continue its historic first European campaign.
Parnassos played both of its matches against Gorenje Velen in Slovenia, with the Strovolos team suffering two losses. In the first match, the Cypriot team lost 38-18, while in the second match they lost 33-24. For the cup champions, the top scorers in the first game were Demosthenous and Omar with four goals each, while in the second game, Brun scored seven and Laskos and Almander each scored four.
