Real Madrid is picking up the pieces after the loss and the… unpunished rough tackles ahead of the break. José Mourinho’s team lost 2-0 to city rival Atlético, with plenty of complaints about the refereeing.
However, in addition to losing points, the “Merengues” are also short on players! As the club announced, team captain Fede Valverde, who was on the receiving end of a hard tackle by Lee Kang-in—which went unpunished—has suffered a severe, third-degree sprain!
In fact, Real Madrid has not disclosed the exact timing of Valverde’s return, but they are indicating it will be a long period, estimating 2–3 weeks, which means the veteran player might just barely make it back in time for Real Madrid’s match against AEK in Nea Filadelfia on November 4.
It should be noted that Valverde was called up by Diego Forlán to the Uruguayan national team; however, due to his injury, he will not be able to participate.
