Rodinei made an impressive debut for Santos and did not hide his satisfaction after the 2-0 victory over Atlético Mineiro, in the first quarterfinal of the Copa Sudamericana.
The Brazilian right back, who returned to soccer in his home country after four years in Greece, was one of the standout players at Vila Belmiro, showing from his very first appearance that he can provide significant solutions for his new team.
In fact, one of his moves that drew attention was the “scissor kick” he performed on an opponent. He, however, chose to downplay the incident and explained that such plays are not an end in themselves in his game.
“My style isn’t about pulling ‘tricks.’ It’s simply a move you can use to shake off a defender,” Rodinei commented on the play that caught everyone’s attention.
After the match, the veteran fullback focused more on Santos’s overall performance and the importance of the victory, while also expressing his joy at returning to Brazil.
“First of all, I’m happy to be back in Brazil and to be part of a great team like Santos. I’m happy about the victory. We’d talked before the game and knew it would be difficult. Until recently, Atlético had gone ten or twelve games without a loss,” he told ESPN.
