Ricardo Sa Pinto voiced complaints about the refereeing following Pafos’ 3-1 loss to Atalanta in the first matchday of the Conference League’s League Phase
Speaking at the press conference, the “Blue” coach focused on two penalties that were not awarded to his team, which could have changed the course of the game. At the same time, he acknowledged the quality and superiority of the opponent.
Here’s what he said in detail: “We played against a very strong team, and their coach is fortunate to have two players for every position. After the goal in the first minute, we lost our focus; then the second goal came, and it was very difficult. At halftime, I told the players to enjoy the game and stick to the plan. We were more organized, more aggressive, and smarter. It’s a shame the referee denied us two penalties. Atalanta was definitely the better team, but I’d like us to have been awarded those two penalties so we could see how the game would have played out.”
