Maria Sakkari got off to an impressive start at Wimbledon.

The 30-year-old Greek champion defeated Clara Tauson (Denmark, No. 25 in the world) 6-3, 6-3 and advanced to the second round of the British Grand Slam.
Sakkari (No. 43) came out strong in the first set and, with a break in the fourth game, managed to win it 6-3 in just 34 minutes.
In the second set, she broke serve in the fifth game and comfortably sealed the victory with a second break, winning 6-3.

Sakkari’s opponent in the second round will be the winner of the match between Kamila Rahimova (Uzbekistan, No. 70) and Anhelina Kalinina (Ukraine, No. 66).
