Stefanos Tsitsipas turned the tables and advanced to the Round of 16 at the US Open! In a thrilling match in New York, the Greek tennis player may have seen his Czech opponent take a 1-0 lead in sets, but with a sustained comeback, he prevailed 3-1 and, for the first time in his career, advances to the fourth round of this prestigious tournament.
After a poor start, Stefanos managed to fully control the pace, put pressure on Lehečka’s serve, and at the same time read the Czech’s serve, capitalizing on his forehand. Tsitsipas then saw his experienced opponent break his serve, but this didn’t deter him, and he took the lead in sweeping fashion.
Tsitsipas comfortably took the first two games to make it 1-0 and 2-1, and in the fourth game, he earned a double break point and converted it with a winner to make it 3-1.
Immediately afterward, Lehetska took a 0-30 lead, but Tsitsipas kept his cool to get out of the tight spot and win the second advantage (4-1).
His path to the next round was now firmly set; dominating the court with another clean break to make it 5-1 and then winning the next game to love to make it 6-1, he celebrated his well-deserved victory.
