Paphos came away with an important victory from the “AEK Arena,” defeating AEK 1-0 in the third matchday of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan.
After the match, the coaches of both teams, Rubén Seyes and Ricardo Sa Pinto, spoke to the media, analyzing the game from their respective perspectives.
Key points
Rubén Sayés
“The game didn’t go the way we wanted. We didn’t play well in the first half, but the positive thing was that we went into halftime with the score tied at zero. In the second half, we played more like ourselves against a competitive opponent like Paphos. We conceded a goal on one play in the second half. There are some things that aren’t working, and we’re trying to improve them. In five days, we have our next game against Omonia 29M.”
“I want to see a strong performance throughout the entire 90 minutes. In all three games, there have been moments when we’ve shown our quality, but not for the entire match. Today, we managed to play better in the second half. The best lesson is how we managed to improve as the match went on.”
Ricardo Sa Pinto
“Since the start of the season, we’ve faced difficult situations with injuries—even Dragomir was out until just a few days ago, which is why he didn’t start. Everyone is part of the team and gives 100%; we’re handling the situation well, and the players deserve credit for that. Overall, we controlled the match; we should have scored earlier, and against Olympiacos, we paid the price for it. In my opinion, we were also denied a penalty. The players who came off the bench made a difference; after that, it made sense for us to sit back—AEK is also a very good team. Our goal is to stay at the top and go into the international break in first place.”
