Today’s EuroLeague meeting, which will be held in person (rather than via teleconference), is expected to ratify Besiktas’s inclusion in place of Monaco on the roster of teams for the upcoming season.
Although there was initially a plan to run the season with 19 teams and have one bye per round, the Turkish team—which was a EuroCup finalist—was ultimately selected, since Bourg did not wish to exercise its right as a title holder.
At the same time, ECA shareholders are expected to approve the plan to expand the EuroLeague to 24 teams starting in the 2027–28 season.
This will also bring about a change in the competition’s format, with teams divided into regions. Under this scenario, teams from the same region will likely play each other twice and face teams from the “opposing” region once.
