José Mourinho watched as his players struggled against Atlético, Real Madrid lost 2-1 at the “Roji-Blancos’” home stadium in this season’s first city derby, and the “Special One” knew exactly what went wrong.
When he went to the postgame press conference, he had two photos with him—showing the plays by Romero and Kang-In Lee, both of whom had avoided the referee’s harshest penalty for striking Bellingham’s knee and Valverde’s ankle.
“These two photos tell the whole story for me. Imagine if the game had been 11 against 9. These are clear red-card offenses,” said the Portuguese coach of the “Merengues.”
