The NBA continues to move forward with plans to create a new European competition, with league commissioner Adam Silver, expressing optimism about reaching an agreement with the EuroLeague, despite the disagreements that have arisen so far.
Speaking to CNBC from Macau on the occasion of the start of the 2026 NBA China Games, Silver made it clear that collaboration with the EuroLeague remains a key objective, though he did not rule out the possibility that the NBA might proceed independently if no agreement is reached.
At the same time, the NBA commissioner noted the strong investor interest in the project, revealing that the cost of acquiring a spot in the new league will run into the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Cities such as London, Paris, Madrid, and Munich are at the center of the planning, with NBA Europe aiming to launch in the 2027–28 season, featuring 16 teams.
