Lionel Messi set up Inter Miami’s first goal and scored the second, but his team was still unable to secure a win. The MLS champions have now gone four straight games without a win, following a 2-2 draw on the road against the Philadelphia Union.
The 39-year-old Argentine superstar, with a magnificent left-footed shot in the 26th minute, reached 922 career goals and found the back of the net for the first time since his father’s death.
Shortly before that, Daniel Pinter had tied the score at 1-1, but the home team, which had taken the lead in the 11th minute through Indiana Vasilev, equalized to make it 2–2 with a goal by Neil Pierre in the 58th minute.
In stoppage time, Cavan Sullivan and Yannick Bright were both sent off following an altercation.
With this result, Inter Miami remains in second place in the Eastern Conference after 20 games with 39 points, seven fewer than Nashville.
