Inter Miami has gone five straight matches without a win. This time, the MLS champions lost 2-1 at home to Toronto, even though Lionel Messi scored again.
Against the run of play, the visitors took a 2-0 lead with goals by Sargeant in the 59th minute and Étienne in the 62nd minute. The Argentine superstar broke through the back of the defense with a beautiful left-footed shot to cut the lead to 1-2 in the 82nd minute, bringing his career total to 923 goals.
Inter Miami remains in second place in the MLS Eastern Conference, but is now 10 points behind the leader, Nashville.
