Fate turned its back on Kimi Antonelli, as the Mercedes driver crashed into a barrier, breaking the suspension and causing the tire to come off. It was damage that his team’s mechanics were unable to repair in the time available, and so the Italian was eliminated from Q1. The accident occurred at a critical moment and will significantly affect him in tomorrow’s race.
As a result, Antonelli will start the race, at best, from 16th place, complicating the title race considerably and giving his rivals a golden opportunity to close in on him. Now, the Italian must make up significant ground to remain the clear favorite for the title.
