Many fronts have opened up in the high-profile Manchester City case. The latest development involves the “Citizens’” major sponsor, Etihad, which is threatening to take legal action against the Premier League. The reason? The way the independent committee’s findings regarding the English club’s financial violations were presented.
Allegations of “improper commercial agreements” sparked outrage among executives at the major airline (following the publication of the independent commission’s decision), while it is emphasized that the Premier League did not ask the airline to present its own position or submit evidence regarding reports of fictitious commercial agreements with sponsors.
“Etihad Airways categorically rejects any finding, conclusion, or implication that the airline was involved in improper commercial agreements,” the statement emphasizes, adding that “The Premier League must take responsibility for the consequences of how these findings were presented.”
