Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed his desire to meet with Kim Jong-un again, but so far, his efforts to reach out to the North Korean leader have fallen on deaf ears. That’s why he brought in the… big guns.
Dennis Rodman was part of Trump’s entourage on Thursday, as the U.S. president spoke at a truck manufacturing plant in Denton, Texas, before heading to a campaign rally in Durant, Oklahoma.

Rodman’s presence—whom the U.S. president called the greatest rebounder in history— coincides with the President’s efforts to arrange a one-on-one meeting with Kim, given that Rodman is known to maintain friendly relations with the leader of the nuclear-armed nation.
“When I wanted to meet Kim Jong-un—as we were facing problems, even though Kim Jong-un and I get along well— the person who knew him best was Dennis Rodman,” Trump said, addressing workers at the Peterbilt factory in Denton.
Nearby, Rodman was sitting on the bed of a truck. The Basketball Hall of Famer was wearing a black Chicago Bulls cap and a T-shirt depicting himself lifting a trophy.
As Rodman then boarded the presidential motorcade for the journey north to Oklahoma, he told Reuters that he hoped to discuss “life” with Trump.
When asked if he planned to visit North Korea in the near future, the basketball legend replied, “If you pay for the ticket.”
During his first term, Trump had three meetings with Kim—including a visit to the Korean Demilitarized Zone— but he has not held a similar meeting since returning to the presidency. Trump has described Kim as a friend with whom he can work, despite North Korea’s aggressive rhetoric and its obsession with nuclear weapons.
“He likes Trump; he doesn’t like a lot of other people,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday at the White House. “I’m pretty much the only person in the whole world he likes, and I like him, too.”
