Natasha Lappa is set to compete in the IQFOIL World Championship, which will be held in Weymouth & Portland, United Kingdom—a historic venue for Cypriot sports—as Cyprus’s sole representative at this event.
It was at this very location, 14 years ago, in 2012, history was made with Cyprus’s first Olympic medal, as Pavlos Kontides took second place on the podium at the “London 2012.”
The first races at the IQFOIL World Championships will take place on Monday (September 7) and will run through Friday (September 11), with the finals taking place on Saturday (September 12). A total of 179 athletes (including 70 in the women’s category) from 39 different countries will participate in the event.
Lappa had also been in Weymouth & Portland in the United Kingdom a month and a half ago, a few weeks before competing in the “Taranto 2026,” where she placed sixth, with the aim of preparing for the World Championships as well.
Supporting Natasa Lappa are Allwyn Cyprus, the ENA Foundation’s “Beyond the Medal” Sports Scholarship Programs, and #TowardsLA by Pavlos Kontidis, the “Olympic Scholarships for Athletes L.A. 2028” and Olympic Preparation programs of the “A.G. Leventis” Foundation, the Cyprus Sports Organization through its High-Performance Planning division, the Cyprus Sailing Federation, and the Limassol Nautical Club. It is sponsored by Coral Cyprus (Shell gas stations) and the MATA Limassol restaurant.
