Belgium's appeal is dismissed; the U.S. will face Balogan in the Round of 16

The reason it was rejected

The U.S. will have its star player of the year on the field for the match against Belgium in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, with kickoff at 03:00, Cyprus time.

The appeal filed by the Belgians against the decision—which was issued just over 24 hours before the match and granted Folarin Balogun the right to play for the Greek national team, despite his red card against Bosnia, was rejected.

The reasoning behind the rejection of Belgium’s appeal was that it was not a party (a party actively involved in a legal dispute or court case) to the case, and therefore had no right to file an appeal and challenge the original ruling.
