The owner of Panathinaikos BC, Dimitris Giannakopoulos, is in Como, Italy, to participate in an important meeting of EuroLeague shareholders, where critical decisions regarding the future of European basketball are expected to be made.
Mr. Giannakopoulos is accompanied by Panathinaikos Basketball Club President Vasilis Parthenopoulos, CEO George Athanasiou, as well as legal counsel and Board member Margarita Thanos.
The two-day meeting in Como is taking place at a particularly critical juncture for European basketball, as the focus is on the NBA’s proposal to acquire a significant stake in the EuroLeague and create a new European league under the auspices of the world’s top league.
At the same time, the possibility of expanding the EuroLeague—increasing the number of teams from 18 to 24—is also expected to be on the table, an issue that directly affects Greek teams vying for a spot in the competition.
