An unexpected setback for England following its impressive advancement to the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Cup, as Jordan Henderson suffered a serious wrist injury during the celebrations following the 3-2 victory over Mexico.
The 36-year-old midfielder lost his balance while celebrating with his teammates, fell off the advertising boards next to the field, and injured his wrist. Initial footage showed the veteran player being carried off on a stretcher; he was then taken to the hospital for examination.
England national team coach Thomas Tuchel also confirmed the news, revealing that the injury appears to be particularly serious.
“Jordan simply fell and injured his wrist. It looks really bad. It’s a fairly serious injury, and unfortunately, it doesn’t fit with the joy of the evening. The doctors have informed us that he is in the hospital,” he said.
Henderson hadn’t played in the match against Mexico, having made only a brief appearance so far in this year’s tournament, but he found himself in the spotlight after his unfortunate injury.

Now, his participation in the quarterfinal against Norway is considered highly doubtful, with England awaiting the results of medical tests to determine the exact extent of the injury.*photo
