Isaac Bonga is now officially a Panathinaikos player.
Having reached an agreement with the German forward, the “Greens” have finalized the deal with him.
The announcement states: “Panathinaikos AKTOR Basketball Club announces the signing of Isaac Bonga for the next three years.
Bonga was born on November 8, 1999, in Neuwied, Germany; he stands 2.03m tall and plays the forward positions.
He began his career in the youth academies of Post SV Koblenz, taking his first steps with SG Lutzel-Post Koblenz. In 2016, he moved to the Skyliners Frankfurt, with whom he made his professional debut.
In 2018, he was selected 39th overall in the NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, with his rights immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he stayed for one year. In 2019, he moved to the Washington Wizards, where he remained for two seasons, playing in 106 games and averaging 15.8 minutes per game, grabbing 2.8 rebounds and dishing out 1 assist per game.
During the 2021–22 season, he played for the Toronto Raptors, appearing in both the regular season and the NBA Playoffs. With the Raptors’ affiliate team, the Raptors 905, he averaged 14.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 31 games, playing 29.8 minutes per game.
In the summer of 2022, he returned to Germany to play for Bayern Munich, with whom he won the German Championship in 2024, as well as the German Cup in 2023 and 2024. With the German team in the EuroLeague, he made 61 appearances, shooting 48.4% from the field, grabbing 4 rebounds, and dishing out 1.1 assists per game.
In 2024, he transferred to Partizan, then coached by Želiko Obradović. During his time in Belgrade, he won the ABA League Championship and the Serbian Championship in 2025. During the 2025–26 EuroLeague season, Bonga played in 38 games, averaging 10 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.5 assists, shooting 60.2% from the field and 82.7% from the free-throw line, in 27:47 minutes of playing time per game. He was also named to the ABA League’s All-Star Five once (2026) and has been honored twice as the ABA League’s Best Defensive Player (2025, 2026).
At the same time, he is a key player on the German national team, with which he has won gold medals at both the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket. In fact, in the 2025 EuroBasket final against Turkey, Bonga was named MVP with 20 points (4-for-7 from the field, 4/4 three-pointers), 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Overall in the tournament playing for Germany, he averaged 9.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 steals, while also winning the award for EuroBasket’s best defensive player.”
