Meeting between the KOK and the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Christodoulides

The needs of Cypriot basketball in terms of sports facilities, as well as the further development of the sport, particularly among young people, were discussed on Tuesday by a delegation from the Cyprus Basketball Federation (KOK) with the President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides, at the Presidential Palace.

The CBA’s statement: “A meeting with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Christodoulides, a delegation from the Cyprus Basketball Federation met on Tuesday (September 1) at the Presidential Palace.

The CBA was represented by the Federation’s president, Mr. Louis Demetriou, the General Director, Mr. Marinos Mitrou, the Head of Development and Strategic Planning, Mr. Dimitris Papadopoulos, and Mr. Neoklis Theocharides.

Also present at the meeting were the President of the Cyprus Sports Organization, Mr. Yiannis Ioannou, and the General Director of the CSO, Dr. Vassos Koutsiountas.

The meeting focused on the existing needs regarding sports facilities, as well as the need to create the appropriate conditions so that more children can participate in basketball. The importance of upgrading existing infrastructure and providing modern, safe, and accessible sports facilities that will serve the needs of clubs, academies, athletes, and national teams.

Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening development programs and further promoting sports participation among young children. A shared goal is to create more opportunities for children and young people throughout Cyprus to participate, so that basketball becomes even more accessible and continuously expands its base.

During the meeting, a constructive discussion also took place regarding the current state of Cypriot basketball and its prospects for growth. They discussed the CBA’s efforts to improve domestic competitions, supporting the national teams, and further developing women’s basketball and 3×3.

The CBA delegation presented to the President of the Republic the Federation’s vision and key priorities for the coming years, with the central goal of creating the right conditions for the continued progress of Cypriot basketball at all levels.

At the same time, the importance of stable and meaningful cooperation between the Federation, the Cyprus Sports Organization, and the government was emphasized, particularly in addressing issues related to facilities and the development of the sport among young people.

The Cyprus Basketball Federation warmly thanks the President of the Republic for the meeting and the interest he has shown in the sport, and looks forward to continuing its cooperation with theand the Cyprus Sports Organization, for the benefit of basketball, children, and Cypriot sports in general.”
