"New Toumba," the details of the plan, the overall project, the construction work, the timeline, and the progress of the conceptual and technical design for the “Nest of the Double-Headed Eagle” were presented to the public during a press conference organized by PAOK FC.
The new “home” of “Double-headed Eagle of the North” will have a capacity of 34,000–35,000, and the roof that will be installed will help maintain the atmosphere and acoustics inside the stadium.
The organized fan section will be a single block comprising 8,700 seats, while around the “Eagle’s Nest” over 400 parking spaces, 600 retail spaces, and 100 VIP seats, including those for players’ families.
In addition, spectators will be 24 meters closer to the field.
“The same construction philosophy as Everton’s stadium—we learned a lot from it. Sustainability is a top priority,” said Mr. Papanastasis.
Salfo spokesperson Maro Konida, during the presentation on the “Eagle’s Nest,” noted:
“The New Toumba project is of particular importance; it is not just a stadium, but a redevelopment project, a green space, and the undergrounding of Kleanthos Street. The development is based on a clear and approved framework.
Emphasis has also been placed on access and parking through the undergrounding of Kleanthos Street. An international and Greek consortium has been formed. New Toumba will become a landmark for Thessaloniki.”
For his part, Salfo’s other spokesperson, Panagiotis Toubanakis, stated that the goal is for New Toumba to become the most modern stadium in Greece and one of the best in Europe.
“We are proud to have delivered projects such as the METRO to the city. Our experience with sports facilities includes two stadiums in Qatar for the World Cup, stadiums in Saudi Arabia, the renovation of the SEF, Panathinaikos’s new stadium, and the renovation of the OAKA.
I’m happy because this involves the wonderful world of PAOK and because it’s a club with a rich history; because it involves a landmark—there will be a comprehensive redevelopment of Toumba; thirdly, because it’s a project… a challenge—and that’s why we have a strong team with international and Greek offices that will ensure the timely and high-quality completion of the design studies, “The goal is to make it the most modern stadium in Greece and one of the best in Europe; the target is to submit the building permit application in December,” he said.
