It’s an official farewell for Roberto Martínez with the Portuguese national team. The 53-year-old coach had previously announced, following the team’s elimination by Spain in the World Cup Round of 16, that he would be ending his tenure with the Portuguese national team.
Now it’s official. “The Portuguese Football Federation thanks Roberto Martínez and his coaching staff for their professionalism and dedication over the past three and a half years, a period marked by winning the Nations League in 2025, as well as by the dedication, the professionalism, and the commitment with which he embraced the project, as well as the way he always respected the country and Portuguese soccer,” the FPF stated, announcing that the collaboration between the two parties has come to an end.
According to related reports, Jorge Jesus is the favorite to take over as Portugal’s head coach.
