Thanasis Antetokounmpo was asked to answer some interesting questions on his online show, “Thanalysis.net.”
The 34-year-old forward discussed, among other things, his decision to return to Greece and play for Aris, emphasizing that this year, fans will love this version of the “Yellows.”
He then spoke about the things that make him happy as a person and as an athlete, as well as the comparisons that have been made over the years with his brother, Giannis.
Here’s what he said in detail:
“I’m in Thessaloniki now, with Aris, and we have a fantastic season ahead of us… Once the NBA comes to Europe, you’ll see that the teams are world-class. You’ll see players and say, ‘I remember him; he used to play for… such-and-such a team.’
My return has been nothing but sweet. I wish every player had the chance to play even just one month in Greece. Something magical is happening at Aris. Consecutive sellouts, jerseys are sold out, the fans are so close to the team, and I feel that a lot of people are going to love this year’s Aris. We feel excited and proud to be part of this team. You don’t know much about Greece yet, but you’ll learn.
Ever since our father passed away, I felt like I had to do everything for everyone else. I’m a reliable person. But I reached a point where I asked myself: “Okay, what will make me happy?” The answer was Greece, my family, and a team with a winning mentality. I don’t just play to play; I play only to win.
Not everyone can be Giannis, nor do they need to be. Stop looking left and right at what others are doing and start building your own character. Find that one thing you do well that no one else can match… Many people told me I had to become a shooter to make millions. I made money by playing defense, bringing energy, and sacrificing myself for the team.”
