The Philadelphia 76ers continue to make big moves ahead of the new season, and, following the acquisition of Jaylen Brown, it appears they are considering yet another trade that will make waves in the NBA.
According to a report by The Athletic, the 76ers have expressed interest in signing LeBron James, who became an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday, bringing his eight-year stint with the Lakers to a close.
Philadelphia’s interest comes just hours after the major trade with the Celtics, in which they acquired Jaylen Brown in exchange for Paul George and draft picks.
According to the same report, the 76ers aren’t the only ones seriously considering the 41-year-old superstar. The Warriors, the Cavaliers, and the Miami Heat are also among the teams closely monitoring developments surrounding the four-time NBA champion.
Despite his age, LeBron continues to perform at a high level. Last season, he played in 60 games for the Lakers, averaging 20.9 points, 7.2 assists, and 6.1 rebounds, while making his 22nd career All-Star Game appearance.
If such a deal is finalized, James will join a particularly strong lineup alongside Tyrese Maxey, V.J. Edgcomb, Jaylen Brown, and Joel Embiid, forming one of the Eastern Conference’s top starting lineups.
