Shocking moments unfolded at “Hill Dickinson” during the match between Everton and Chelsea on Matchday 7 of the Premier League.
Fans of both teams—and indeed the entire British soccer community— “froze” when, in the 66th minute, Emiliano Martínez suffered a serious head injury after a violent collision with Jarrod Branthwaite, as he attempted to clear the ball from his penalty area following a foul.
The “Blues’” Argentine goalkeeper remained on the field for ten minutes, with medical staff from both teams rushing to his side to provide first aid.
Shortly afterward, the veteran goalkeeper was carefully placed on a stretcher with a special neck brace and then left the field to be taken to a local hospital for furtherexaminations.
