According to a report in the *Daily Mail* on Monday (Oct. 19), sources familiar with the case indicate that extremely severe penalties are being considered against the “Citizens,” including a significant points deduction and a hefty fine.
The case involves 114 violations of the Premier League’s financial regulations, which are attributed to the club for the 2009–2018 period. According to the British report, the points deduction under consideration could be so severe that it would result in City being relegated from the top flight.
In fact, the possibility of imposing additional point deductions following its relegation to the Championship is also reportedly on the table.
Such a development would significantly hinder the club’s immediate return to the Premier League, although the implementation of this specific penalty would require the cooperation of the English Football League (EFL), which is under no obligation to accept it.
At the same time, the timeline of these developments is particularly noteworthy. According to the British media outlet, the Premier League is seeking to announce the sanctions before the appeal process is completed, with a decision expected in late January.
