A few days after he appeared before the prosecutor’s office regarding the case that caused a stir in England and Switzerland over the issuance of a fake COVID-19 vaccination certificate, Granit Xhaka announced on social media the penalty imposed on him.
The 34-year-old midfielder and captain of Sunderland therefore stated that the court fined him 160,794 euros for forging the document, clarifying that the sentence is suspended, provided he does not commit any further offenses over the course of a two-year period.
We recall that last month, the veteran star admitted that he was in possession of a forged certificate because—as he emphasized—he was anxious about the vaccine at the time.
In fact, initial assessments suggested extremely severe penalties, with Tsaka facing charges that could result in a five-year prison sentence.
Both the Swiss Football Association and the player himself decided a few weeks ago that he should not participate during the Nations League international break until this matter is resolved. This means that—logically—the national team captain will be available for Switzerland’s upcoming matches.
