Haris Theocharous spoke with “SPOR FM 95.0” about Paphos’s rematch (August 27) against Dinamo City and the team’s plans.
Here are the highlights of what he said:
On tomorrow’s game: “We need to approach this with the same seriousness as any European match, not give the opposing team any reason to believe they can advance, and achieve our goal, which is to reach the Europa League group stage for the third consecutive year.”
Regarding David Luiz: “Paphos will not be issuing medical updates this season, except in cases of serious injuries. Beyond that, when there are minor injuries, we won’t be providing updates on how long players will be out. All the players are ready to give it their all for tomorrow’s game. We don’t think it’s necessary to mention which players are injured, unless we have serious injuries, as in the case of Zaza.”
On attendance for tomorrow’s match: “Advance ticket sales are going relatively well; we’re expecting a larger crowd. This is a more important game than the one against Salzburg, and we’re asking our fans to understand that and support the team so we can advance to the League Phase for the third consecutive time.”
On Yoram Zage: “He’s a young player who has also played for Paris Saint-Germain. We believe he can be a great asset to the team; he plays on the right side of the defense and will help create healthy competition for the position. He’s a modern fullback; he’s fast and has quite a few similarities to Bruno.”
On whether there will be another signing: “We’re being very careful; we’ve made some moves. We’re assessing where we need reinforcements, and decisions will be made based on our obligations. We have our goals; they’re clearly defined and will adjust accordingly. But we do want to strengthen the team; I believe we’ll make some signings—we’ll see how it goes from there. If we can’t find anyone better than the players we have on our current roster, we won’t make any additions.”
Regarding offers: “We’ve received offers for various players, but so far they haven’t met the team’s needs; we’re open to it—if an attractive offer comes along and the player himself is interested, we won’t hesitate to let him go and make another signing.”
