Nick Kyrgios tested positive for cocaine following a test administered at the Mallorca tournament on June 22.
The Greek-Australian tennis player was informed by the relevant authorities that benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, in the sample he provided, and of the decision to suspend him, effective August 4.
He has the right to appeal, which he did not exercise. In fact, in a post on Instagram, he admits that he made a mistake, stating:
“I’ve made a huge mistake, and I take full responsibility for it. I apologize to the fans, my family, my sponsors, and everyone close to me.
Above all, I apologize to the children who look up to me. I know what kind of example I set, and I am disappointed in myself.”
