Dimitris Palalas was one of the great stars of the ‘Queen’ during the golden age of Cypriot basketball, having won 8 league championships and a total of 14 titles. From the age of twelve at AEL until the conclusion of his illustrious playing career in 1988, he did the blue-and-yellow jersey proud and linked his name to the club’s first major successes and its establishment as a leading force in Cypriot basketball.
In addition to being a great basketball player, he served AEL as a coach, administrator, and technical director, dedicating decades to the team he loved and served faithfully. At the same time, he was one of the founders of the women’s basketball division, and as the first head coach of AEL’s women’s team, he led them to their first championship in the division’s history.
His contributions, however, extended beyond AEL. Dimitris Palalas was one of the most important figures in Cypriot basketball, also serving in leadership roles within the Cyprus Basketball Federation. His presence and contributions left an indelible mark on the sport and on future generations.
AEL bids a respectful farewell to a man who dedicated his life to the Limassol Athletic Union, served it with consistency and pride, and will always remain an integral part of its history.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, loved ones, and all those who had the honor of knowing him and working alongside him.
May your memory live on forever, our Dimitris.”
