In a video message, the President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, thanked the Organization’s Board of Directors for the work accomplished over the past 2.5 years and noted: “For our Government, the approach to sports issues boils down to the fact that it is the best investment for the future of our country and for our children. By government decision and in cooperation with the Hellenic Olympic Committee (HOC), all athletes who qualify for the Olympic and Paralympic Games are guaranteed participation in the Professional Rehabilitation Program, while at the same time we have equalized all benefits between athletes with disabilities and those without.” He also referred to the “significant investment in Spyros Kyprianou for the highly successful organization of EuroBasket.”

The Minister of Education, Sports, and Youth, Athina Michaelidou, welcomed the report of the CAA Board of Directors: “The Cyprus Sports Organization has long been Cyprus’s highest sports authority, serving as the official arm for implementing the government’s relevant policy. We have developed a close, productive, and transparent partnership with the Organization’s Board of Directors. We have worked with dedication and a clear focus, aiming to address contemporary challenges and fully implement the government’s strategy for a modern, safe, and accessible to all.”

KOA President Yiannis Ioannou noted that “we could not have succeeded without the contribution and cooperation of the Organization’s staff” and added: “Every euro spent on sports is an investment in our youth; it is an investment in the future of our country, and we must continually increase our budgets for infrastructure. A 2.5-year journey has come to an end; I believe we’ve achieved something, and we can look everyone in the eye. The entire Board of Directors is proud of our integrity, honesty, and ethics.”

Kalli Hatziosef, Vice President of the KOA, emphasized: “We acted with determination, without institutional uncertainty—I dare say we took risks. We dared to make historic decisions. Not with an eye toward tomorrow or next week. The decisions concerned the future of the KOA and, by extension, the progress of sports, always based on a specific strategic plan and a clear and unquestionably athlete-centered policy.”

“This report does not merely reflect the decisions of a Board of Directors. It also reflects the daily, often behind-the-scenes, work of the Organization’s staff, who were called upon to put those plans into action. “As head of the agency, I am proud of the KOA staff, who rose to the challenge during a particularly demanding period with professionalism, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of responsibility,” noted the Organization’s Deputy Director General.

In the review video that was shown, the Organization highlighted three areas: investment in athletes, investment in infrastructure, and investment in the future. As an athlete-centered organization, the KOA emphasized improving conditions for athletes by increasing their grants by 57% compared to 2022, as well as grants to federations by 36% and to clubs by 23%. For infrastructure, 25 million euros were spent on 53 projects across Cyprus, with the upgrade of the “Spyros Kyprianou” Arena for the 2025 EuroBasket tournament at the forefront. Regarding investment in the future, emphasis was placed on the creation of the Digital Sports Platform and the Cyprus Sports Institute, as well as on the new organizational structure of the Cyprus Olympic Committee (KOA).
