If there’s one tennis player who has stolen the show at this year’s Wimbledon, it’s Arthur Ferry. The 23-year-old Briton continues to write his own… fairy tale, enjoying a dream run at his home country’s most important tournament.
The world No. 114 defeated Flavio Comboli with characteristic ease, 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-0 and advanced to the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
With this victory, he became the lowest-ranked Wimbledon semifinalist since Goran Ivanisevic in 2001, while also becoming only the fifth British player in the Open Era to reach the semifinals of the London Grand Slam, following Roger Taylor, Tim Henman, Andy Murray, and Cameron Norrie.
“Every match is getting better and better. I can’t believe it. It’s incredible to be playing on Centre Court and to be in the semifinals,” said the 23-year-old, who is now just one win away from the first Grand Slam final of his career.
His next opponent will be Alexander Zverev, with the German standing as the final hurdle in this year’s Wimbledon’s most beautiful… Fery tale.
Sealed with an ace. Take a bow, Arthur Fery.
