With grit and passion, Viking defeated Dinamo Zagreb and secured a spot in the Champions League group stage.
In the playoffs of Europe’s premier club competition, the Norwegians hosted the Croatians for the rematch of the 2-2 draw in Zagreb and, with an impressive 3-1 victory, triumphantly secured their spot in the next round. Meanwhile, Fenerbahçe and Lyon faced off in France following the 1-1 draw in Istanbul, with the Turks prevailing 2-1 and already dreaming of the stars.
Viking found themselves with their backs against the wall early on, as Hoza opened the scoring in the 10th minute to give the Croatians a 1-0 lead.
The Norwegians’ response, however, was swift and immediate, with Viking equalizing to make it 1-1 in the 18th minute, thanks to Trpić’s well-taken penalty kick.
In the second half, Viking came out more determined than ever and, with their foot on the gas, took the game by the throat against Dinamo. In the 48th minute, Austbo completed the comeback to make it 2-1, while just two minutes later, in the 50th minute, Moi made it 3-1, a score that remained unchanged until the referee’s final whistle.
Meanwhile, in France, Lyon saw Fenerbahçe fire off two shots in the first half, showing their aggressive intent. Muriki scored the 1-0 goal in the 24th minute, while in the 28th minute, Brown doubled his team’s lead, with the Englishman making it 2-0.
All Lyon managed to do was pull one back to make it 2-1 through Fofana, though they were unable to do anything more, effectively ending any hopes they had for the Champions League group stage.
