The “Greens” are looking to kick off the competition on the… Thanos Lakiotis breaks down three things Henning Berg’s squad needs to watch out for against the Spanish team.
The three things we’ve noted:
- The suffocating press. When Celta loses the ball, several of their players apply pressure to regain possession within 10 seconds. At this point, quick, sharp passes are needed to leave the Spanish team exposed and create space.
- Gaps in the defense. In Hiraldez’s 3-4-3 formation, the wingers converge and the fullbacks push high up the field to create numerical superiority in attack. The problem for them arises when they lose possession. That’s where the speed of Omonia’s wingers is needed to set up counterattacks.
- Momentum. Celta is the epitome of a team driven by psychology. When they’re ahead, they play with confidence for a while, and that’s when caution is needed to prevent the game from getting even more out of hand. However, when their game plan goes awry, the players get nervous and make a lot of unforced errors. This year’s games against Athletic Bilbao and Málaga are prime examples.
