Daniel Maldini is facing serious trouble following the car accident in which he was involved on the night between Saturday and Sunday. According to Italian media reports, the Cagliari forward tested positive on a breathalyzer test, as well as in a preliminary drug test, resulting in the revocation of his driver’s license and the initiation of legal proceedings against him.
The incident occurred a few hours after he scored a goal against Atalanta. While returning from a night out with friends, he allegedly failed to yield the right of way and collided with a car traveling on the left side of the road, with a total of six people involved in the incident. Maldini was taken to the hospital and discharged shortly thereafter.
According to the same reports, the two breathalyzer tests showed readings of 0.91 and 0.89 mg/l. Meanwhile, the preliminary drug test also came back positive, though a definitive result is not yet available, as the toxicology tests conducted at the hospital are still pending.
The case may also have competitive consequences for the 20-year-old soccer player. Cagliari is considering possible disciplinary sanctions and a fine, while the incident could also affect his potential call-up to the Italian national team due to the team’s code of conduct. Daniel is the second son of Milan legend Paolo Maldini and Adriana Fossa.
