Stefanos Tsitsipas secured his spot in the semifinals of the Almaty Open, defeating James Duckworth in straight sets. The Greek tennis player defeated the Australian 2-0 in sets (6-3, 6-4) and continues his quest for success at the tournament in Kazakhstan.
Tsitsipas came out strong and took control early on, breaking serve in the second game of the first set. With consistent shots and an effective serve, he maintained his lead until the end, closing out the set 6-3.
The pattern didn’t change much in the second set either, with the Greek tennis player capitalizing on his opponent’s mistakes and maintaining control. Reaching 6-4, he sealed the victory and his spot in the semifinals after one hour and 13 minutes of play.
His serve also played a decisive role in his victory, as he finished the match with seven aces, compared to just one by Duckworth.
In the semifinals, the Greek tennis player will face Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili (No. 34), aiming for a spot in the final. Tsitsipas’s 34-year-old opponent had eliminated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the quarterfinals, also by a 2-0 set score (6-3, 6-1).
Set scores: 6-3, 6-4.
