As UEFA officials make clear, it is not enough for Infantino to simply back down from the plan for private investment in the World Cup and the sale of the tournament’s rights, but there must be a guarantee that such a scenario will never arise again.
“Since last Saturday, we have made it clear that Mr. Infantino has lost our support, and that has not changed. The announcement that FIFA employees—whose positions naturally depend on Infantino’s tenure as president—are on the same page as him does not change anything for us,” the statement reads.
