UEFA came down hard on Matteo Guendouzi for his behavior toward Lyon fans following the match against Fenerbahçe.
The French midfielder was suspended for four matches and fined 50,000 euros, as UEFA deemed his behavior toward the French team’s fans to be particularly serious. Gendouzi behaved in a heated and aggressive manner toward the Lyon fans, and he also made provocative gestures toward the stands; the incident was recorded and ultimately led to a severe disciplinary penalty.
Of the four-match suspension, two will be served as scheduled this season, while the other two will remain suspended for a one-year probationary period. Essentially, Geduz will miss the home match against Roma (September 10) and the away match against Aston Villa (October 14).
In this way, UEFA sought to demonstrate that it will not tolerate behavior deemed provocative or aggressive toward fans, with Geduz now facing one of the harshest penalties in the competition.
As for Mason Greenwood, he was fined 30,000 euros and received a one-match suspended suspension, which means he will play as usual against Roma.
