AEK is turning a new page in its coaching staff, as management has decided to terminate its contract with Mauro Camoranesi early. The Italian-Argentine coach is leaving before the start of the league season, just two months after being hired.
The decision came after the team’s poor performance in friendlies and its early elimination from the Conference League. The latest negative result—a friendly loss to Asteras Tripolis—exacerbated concerns and appears to have been the final straw that led to the termination of his contract.

Now, the burden falls on Xavi Roca, who is tasked with immediately finding a replacement for Camoranesi. The technical director had selected the Italian-Argentine coach this past summer and now faces a critical decision, with time running out.
AEK needs a coach who can take over immediately, quickly assess the roster, and provide a clear direction for the team. With the start of the league season approaching, there is little room for yet another wrong choice.
Along with Camoranesi, Miguel Enrique, who served as the team’s fitness coach, is also leaving. The rest of the coaching staff remains in place, while Inaki Astith, who until recently served as the Italian-Argentine coach’s assistant, will take over as interim head coach.
Thus, AEK is embarking on a new search for a head coach at perhaps the most critical moment of its preseason preparations. Roca is now called upon to immediately rectify the situation and select a coach who can provide solutions without requiring a long adjustment period.
