Atlético Madrid has no intention of selling Julián Álvarez. The executive director of the “Roji-Blancos” dashed the hopes of Barcelona, Arsenal, and any other potential suitors by emphasizing that anyone wishing to sign the Argentine forward will have to pay the exorbitant €500 million buyout clause stipulated in his contract.
“We want Julián Álvarez to be our striker. Laporta (editor’s note: Barcelona president) said that the offer he made us won’t be valid forever, but I can assure you that our response is clear: We won’t accept Barcelona’s 100 million euros; we won’t accept 150 million, nor 200 million. The player has a release clause,” he said.
The 26-year-old star, who is under contract through 2030, had 20 goals and 9 assists in 49 appearances for Atlético this season.
