Undoubtedly, Bronny James is constantly compared to his father and is presented in the NBA as… the king’s son. The son of LeBron James, the “prince” of the “magical planet” who has everything in life just the way he wants it.
If nothing else, the “backlash” directed at him is significant, with many arguing that if his father weren’t on the Los Angeles Lakers, the “Lakers” would never have drafted him and would have chosen another player to fill out their roster. Throughout his time in the league, Bronny has shown flashes of quality and played some good games, but he has yet to truly stand out at the highest level.
Of course, what will happen now that his father has left the Lakers? Does this open the door to speculation about his own possible departure? Has he ceased to be… a key player on the team? The Lakers have a clear stance, despite the commotion and the many media reports lambasting him.
Bronny James isn’t going anywhere
“The signs that the Lakers believe in Bronny are all there,” wrote Tony Watts of “Lake Show Life,” arguing that the Los Angeles team plans to… invest in James Jr. for another year, since he has a guaranteed contract for this season as well.
Bronny is expected to earn approximately $2.2 million this season, while the Lakers currently have 16 players with guaranteed contracts and will ultimately need to reduce that number to 15. However, Watts points out that Bronny has not been mentioned among the players the Lakers are actively considering for a trade, as the team is looking for other ways to resolve its roster issues.
Therefore, in this… decisive manner, the California franchise is clearly demonstrating its support for a young athlete, seeing in him more than just LeBron’s son. The Lakers aren’t just banking on Bronny staying consistent and being able to make an impact on their game, but on him developing significantly and having a lot to offer. He, too, will (in time) become a star.
