The competition began on Sunday, July 19, and so far one race has been held, in which Pavlos Kontidis finished in 27th place in the ILCA 7 class.

Clearly, Pavlos Kontidis’s presence and participation in Los Angeles also offer the two-time Olympic silver medalist the ideal opportunity to gather valuable insights ahead of the “Los Angeles 2028.”

The No. 1 in the world rankings for the ILCA 7 class has been in Los Angeles since the beginning of the month, and in the run-up to the Grand Slam, he also competed in the North American Championship, finishing in 10th place.

As a reminder, last year, Kontides won a bronze medal at the Los Angeles Grand Slam, with the races taking place in Long Beach.

In the earlier 2026 Grand Slam events, the sailor from the Limassol Nautical Club was unable to compete in Palma de Mallorca due to illness, but finished 8th in Yers. He subsequently was crowned European Champion for the third time in his career at the competition held in Croatia.

In Los Angeles, in addition to Kontides, there is another Cypriot competitor: Marilena Makri, who is racing in the ILCA 6 class. She finished 11th in the first race.
