Dusan Kerkez appeared visibly upset after Atromitos’s draw with Heraklis, as the coach of the Peristeri-based team made no secret of his irritation with Walter Mazzarri’s behavior.
The Bosnian coach focused both on Atromitos’ performance on the field and on an incident that occurred after the match ended, launching an attack on his Italian counterpart and citing a lack of respect. In fact, he contrasted Mazzarri’s behavior with that of José Luis Medilibar.
“Classic Greek soccer with intensity. In the first half, we were fantastic. We knew Heraklis would attack, and we defended well. We should have scored two or three goals. We made substitutions due to yellow cards, and after that, it wasn’t easy to maintain that intensity. In the second half, Heraklis was the better team. It’s good to see Heraklis back in action. I want to thank our fans for their support. We could have scored at the end, but that’s the way soccer goes.
We were very different compared to the Kalamata game; we played as a team. We can do even better. With all this tension and with all due respect to Mr. Matsari—he was a very good coach—but I went to shake his hand and he didn’t shake mine. He should have set an example like Medilibar. He doesn’t even know English, but Mr. Medilibar is different. Is a 65-year-old a role model for us? He may have 10 trophies, but to me, he’s a zero. I didn’t want to say it, but I have to. Cigarettes on the bench—is that the kind of image we want? I’m always respectful, but he has no respect,” he explained in detail.
