Victor Wembanyama chose to make a move that speaks volumes.
The French star of the Spurs decided to renew his contract with the San Antonio team but not to exercise his option to sign a supermax contract.
Specifically, as reported by Sams Charania, Wembanyama signed a five-year contract extension with the Spurs, which will earn him $252,000,000, with the option to leave the team in the fifth year.
However, what has caused a stir is the Frenchman’s decision not to take the big “supermax” contract he could have received from the team.
A contract that would have added an additional $51,000,000 to their bank accounts.
He decided to take less money and leave those 51 million available under the team’s salary cap so that the team could use that money to strengthen its roster.
This obviously says something about the player’s character, but also his willingness to do his part in building a team that can contend for the NBA championship in the coming years.
