An alarm was raised on Monday morning at the police headquarters in Larnaca when an 18-year-old foreign national on trial, who had been transferred to the Larnaca District Court for further legal proceedings, escaped from custody.

It was around 9:00 a.m. when the 18-year-old from Palestine was transported from the Aradippou police holding cells, along with other detainees, to the Larnaca District Court to continue legal proceedings against himthem regarding a theft case.

After the court proceedings, which began around 12:00 p.m., were completed, he was taken back to the police van to be transported to his place of detention.

There, in front of other detainees and under circumstances that are currently under investigation, he managed to escape.

An alarm was immediately sounded, and police officers were mobilized throughout the city, where he was finally located two hours later in the city center by the bicycle police unit.

Meanwhile, an investigation ordered by the Chief of Police is underway to determine the circumstances under which the young man managed to escape.

Reports indicate that the young man was not handcuffed, even though he was a suspect in a fatal incident.
