Israeli fighter jets launched an airstrike today on a neighborhood in Gaza City, where, among other targets, an apartment building was hit, resulting in the deaths of at least five people, according to health officials in the Palestinian enclave.
So far, there has been no confirmation from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
Despite the ceasefire that took effect in October 2025, following U.S. mediation, negotiators have not agreed on the terms for the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of Israeli troops.
Israel, which claims that Hamas is rearming and launching attacks in violation of the ceasefire, has intensified its strikes against the group in recent weeks.
For its part, Hamas denies that it is attempting to launch attacks or rebuild its arsenal and accuses Israel of undermining the peace process.
According to the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military operations since October 10, 2025, when the fragile ceasefire took effect in the Palestinian enclave.
During the same period, the Israeli armed forces have reported six casualties in Gaza: five soldiers and one Defense Ministry contractor.
