Severe weather conditions were recorded at noon on Monday, in the middle of summer, confirming the forecasts of the Meteorological Service, which had predicted rain and isolated thunderstorms.

At the same time, heavy rainfall was reported in Nicosia and the Machaira area, with residents posting videos on the “Cyprus Weather Lovers” page, documenting the conditions in the capital and the mountainous areas.
Average rainfall in August through August
17 was at 41% of normal
At 41% of the normal August average, the average rainfall in the free areas from the 1st of the month until 9:00 a.m. on August 17, according to preliminary data released Monday by the Department of Meteorology.
The normal rainfall for the month is 2.9 millimeters, while the average total rainfall recorded since the beginning of the month amounted to 1.2 millimeters, corresponding to 41% of the normal amount.
Over the last three days, according to the Department’s data, the highest rainfall amounts were recorded in Platania and Saittas, at 13.2 and 13.9 millimeters, respectively, while the total average rainfall amounted to 1.1 millimeters.
As for the total rainfall from August 1 through 9:00 a.m. on August 17, the highest amount was recorded in Saittas at 13.9 millimeters (103% of normal), in Platania at 13.2 millimeters (96% of normal), in Athenou with 9 millimeters (360% of normal), and in Lythrodonta with 7 millimeters (233% of normal).
