Curaçao and Ivory Coast will face off at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia (June 25, 11:00 p.m.) as part of the final matchday of Group 5.
Both teams still have a chance to advance to the World Cup’s Round of 32, as a win would see them follow Germany, which has already qualified.
The tournament’s “Cinderella,” Curaçao, after two matches in its debut appearance—and despite a heavy defeat by the “Panzers” (7-1), managed to secure a scoreless draw against Ecuador, with goalkeeper Roum putting in an incredible performance (17 saves).
Dick Advocaat is counting on all his players except Jürgen Locadia, who left the match against Ecuador with an injury and is considered doubtful.
Based on the qualification scenarios, Curaçao needs a win over Ivory Coast and a better result than Ecuador, which faces Germany. In the event of a tie, the island nation would have to make up the goal difference.
On the other hand, Ivory Coast, after the conclusion of the second matchday, has 3 points, right behind “Maanshaft.” Although the Africans suffered a defeat in their most recent match against Julian Nagelsmann’s team, their opening-round victory over Ecuador has firmly put them in contention for qualification.
The “Elephants” are the favorites against Curaçao, and even if they don’t win, a draw could be more than enough to send them to the next round.
The team’s coach, Emers Faë, watched his squad train as usual, with the exception of Singo, who may be sidelined due to a nagging injury, with Due looking like his most likely replacement.
Possible starting lineups
